Germany's Parliement cleared the way on 3 December for the country's ministry of defence to procure a third Berlin Class combat support ship (CSS). It will enter in 2013, The ship will cost EUR330.46 million (USD423 million) and be built by a joint consortium of four German Shipyard.
As yet Unnamed , it will cost almost twice as much as its predecessor because it will incorporate not only systems the first two ship lacked such as an improved air conditioning system for tropical operations but also new technology required by the latest environmental and seafaring regulations.
The German Navy has acknowledged for some time the need for at least one more CSS of this class to support the Navy's 15 frigate and the five corvettes soon to be in service.
